Chinese New Year: London 2024

新年快乐! Happy New year! I was fortunate enough to spend some years living in China what feels now like a lifetime ago. When I was there I had a lot of time to travel all over the wildly large and diverse country filled with cultures, culinary delights and some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met. For that reason Chinese New Year holds a special place in my heart, from making handmade dumplings with friends for good luck, joining in with a parade by accident and somehow becoming the centre of attention (6ft 2 bearded foreign guys are not the norm where I was living at the time) to dancing past an inferno of firecrackers set off by 5 year olds in Beijing.

This year I decided to head to London to photograph the Spring Festival celebrations there for the first time and it was wild. Not quite on the same level as the celebrations I’ve experienced in China of course but it was indeed very busy, colourful, and a fun day out. I did my best to capture the fringes of the event in photographs which I’ve included below - enjoy!
